Stolen Goods Advisory

On Friday Aug 6th someone stole the top Globe off of our antique gas pump in Royston, BC ( near Courtenay ).  It was original as far as I know, aprox 15" curved glass with the words Esso , extra and ethyl.

These are a few pictures of what it looked like.  I have looked online and found one similar to ours, but not exactly. If someone shows up at your store trying to sell an item like this, please get contact information from them for me so I can have police follow up on it.

I am also sending along a picture of another item that was stolen awhile back, in Sept 2009.  It is a large brass bell, aprox 18"x 18", with the words "ueen Elizabeth" "1969 " on it. The word Queen is mispelled.

Seven British Specialty Antique Collectors' Clubs

Guest post contributed by British antiques dealer, MyFamilySilver

Discovering antique objects is only part of the fun, sharing your discoveries with others can be just as rewarding. The following specialty clubs in Britain support and network collectors of specialized antiques so they can collaborate and meet to explore the fine points of their chosen passion for the past.

Antique Wine Bottle and Black Glass Collector's Club

Collectors of antique wine and black glass bottles that date from the 17th to 19th century can join this club to share information, ask questions about their finds or post current events -- like archaeological sites in England -- that pertain to the discovering and proper identification of antique bottles.

What to Expect in a Written Appraisal

When conducting an appraisal, your appraiser photographs, measures, and describes each item on site.  Extensive research into the history and value of each item is conducted off-site.  For larger appraisals, more than one visit may be required.  Regardless of whether your appraisal is a single page, or 100 pages, each appraisal…

  • is researched,
  • describes each item in detail (including measurements),
  • includes a colour photograph,
  • states an appropriate value for the item,
  • is dated,
  • appears on the appraiser’s letterhead, and
  • is signed by the appraiser.

  • The Boy Has a Solid Gold Sense of Humour
This article was originally published in the North Island Mid-Week. My teen son Stephen has reached that smart ass “aren’t I witty” question and answer phase. For example if you ask him to put the cat out he replies, “I didn’t know it was on fire!” If I ask him to put the kettle on [...]
